Infection Prevention Nurse George Garber Receives Employee of the Year Award

Bristol, PA (February 9, 2021)– Lower Bucks Hospital’s Infection Prevention Nurse George Garber has been honored with the Employee of the Year Award for 2020.

George Garber joined Lower Bucks Hospital in January 2004 as the Infection Prevention Practitioner Registered Nurse. During his tenure he has consistently demonstrated his expertise in infection prevention and regulatory standards.

“In becoming an Infection Prevention Nurse, I made a commitment to encourage and inspire others to make their health and safety a daily priority,” George Garber explains.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Literature from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 1975 and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Penn State Abington in 1990. He is a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to belong to a team so dedicated to community,” shares George.

As the Covid-19 pandemic began, there was a great deal of uncertainty and fear regarding contamination, exposure risk and the patient care that was required. George’s level of collaboration and underscores his drive to protect the patient. Not only does George take the time to collaborate with staff, but he ensures the infection control measures will work for the staff through collaboration.

George Garber was recognized for his outstanding contributions during this year’s battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Georg made it his duty to have complete transparency and open-door communication throughout the entire process. He personally attended change-of-shift safety huddles for the COVID-19 areas to answer all questions from the frontline staff, dispelling any fraction of uncertainty with her leadership, and steadfast confidence. George was also an integral member of the Command Center, as nursing leadership relied upon him to guide directors on the protocols to keep their teams safe.

He goes above and beyond to help his fellow staff members and patients to the best of his ability. To help ensure the safety of the healthcare workers and patients, George stayed late nights to help the staff, voluntarily tests Covid-19 without any hesitancy and give a lending hand whenever and wherever it’s needed.

George’s passion and drive to ensure the best patient care is provided enables him to collaborate with external and internal colleagues to accomplish a seamless transition into best practices in clinical care of all patients. George engages others around him and delegates key infection control principles to continue the quest for best practices for everyone throughout the organization.

By applying an interdisciplinary approach, George paved the way for an enhanced safety culture. Facilitating strong communication across disciplines allowed the staff and leadership team to stand as a united front against a debilitating pandemic, which heightened a feeling of togetherness and team orientation.

George grew up in Feasterville and has 4 children, 30-year old Kim, 27-year old George the 3rd, 26-year-old Colin, and 24-year-old John Paul. On George’s free time he indulges in hiking and scuba diving.

“George is a natural when it comes to infection prevention,” said Lea Rodriguez, chief nursing officer of Lower Bucks Hospital. “He has the ability to dissect any situation and construct effective strategies to help protect our patients, their loved ones and staff. The countless hours he spends researching, educating, planning and implementing protocols as part of our ongoing COVID-19 response magnifies his willingness to go above and beyond in contributing to safe health care practices.”

During this pandemic, where there was so much uncertainty and fear from patients, staff and loved ones at home, George was a beacon amidst the stormy shores, “ said Michelle Aliprantis regional director of business development, marketing and communications of Prime Healthcare Pennsylvania Region. “We are so blessed to have had him light the way. George is a true hero and very deserving of the Employee of the Year Award!”
