Lower Bucks Hospital Earns National Recognition for Excellence in Stroke Care

Lower Bucks Hospital is proud to announce its recent recognition by the American Heart Association with the Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus award, alongside the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award.

BRISTOL, PA (07/12/2025) – Lower Bucks Hospital has been awarded the American Heart Association’s prestigious Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award, reflecting its dedication to providing stroke patients with the most appropriate treatments based on nationally recognized and research-based guidelines. This commitment not only leads to more lives saved but also significantly reduces disability among stroke survivors.

Stroke ranks as the fifth leading cause of death and remains a major contributor to disability in the United States. It occurs when a blood vessel that supplies oxygen and nutrients to the brain gets blocked by a clot or ruptures, preventing vital blood flow. Early detection and treatment are critical to improving survival rates, minimizing long-term disability, and facilitating faster recovery.

The Get With The Guidelines program leverages the expertise of the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association to assist hospitals across the nation in aligning patient care with the latest evidence-based guidelines. This in-hospital initiative focuses on enhancing stroke care through consistent adherence to established protocols, ultimately minimizing the long-term effects of strokes and preventing fatalities.

Michael Motte, CEO of Lower Bucks Hospital, expressed pride in the hospital’s achievements, stating, “At Lower Bucks Hospital, we are dedicated to elevating patient care through adherence to the latest treatment guidelines. The Get With The Guidelines program empowers our teams to implement proven practices daily, significantly enhancing patient recovery. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that more individuals in Bucks County enjoy longer, healthier lives.”

Each year, hospitals participating in this program qualify for the award by demonstrating their commitment to quality stroke care. In addition to adhering to treatment guidelines, participants in Get With The Guidelines also focus on educating patients, enabling them to manage their health and recovery effectively at home.

“We are incredibly pleased to recognize Lower Bucks Hospital for its commitment to caring for patients with stroke,” said Steven Messe, M.D., volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group. “Participation in Get With The Guidelines is associated with improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality rates — a win for health care systems, families, and communities.”

In addition to the Stroke Gold Plus award, Lower Bucks Hospital has also been honored with the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll award. This initiative aims to ensure that patients with Type 2 diabetes, who may face a higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.

Through these achievements, Lower Bucks Hospital reinforces its pledge to provide exceptional care and support to all patients, fostering healthier communities throughout the region.
