Reflecting on My CHEST Boston 2024 Experience: A Resident Physician’s Journey of Growth and Connection

By Madeeha Subhan Waleed, MD., Chief Resident, Internal Medicine Resident

Presenting my poster at a chest conference was an incredible opportunity that truly enriched my residency experience. As a resident physician representing my hospital, participating in such a prestigious conference allowed me to share my research and engage with a diverse audience of experts and peers in the field of medicine. The journey to Boston was memorable in itself. Driving through the vibrant fall landscape, I was captivated by the stunning array of colors—the rich reds, oranges, and yellows painted a beautiful backdrop that made the drive both refreshing and inspiring. It felt like a perfect prelude to the intellectual exploration that awaited me at the conference. Throughout the event, I had the privilege of meeting fellow presenters from various backgrounds, each bringing unique insights and perspectives. These interactions not only expanded my understanding of current trends and challenges in the field but also fostered a sense of camaraderie among us as emerging professionals. The discussions were both inspiring and informative, providing practical tips and advice that I can apply to my own practice and research endeavors. The sessions I attended were thought-provoking and highlighted innovative approaches to patient care and management. I was particularly impressed by the advances in medicine and the emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration. It reinforced the importance of staying up-to-date with evolving practices and the significant impact research has on improving patient outcomes.

Overall, my experience at a national conference was not only a chance to present my work on behalf of my hospital but also a pivotal moment in my journey as a resident physician. The knowledge I gained and the relationships I built will undoubtedly shape my future career in medicine. I am grateful for the experience and look forward to applying what I learned in my practice while continuing to engage with this vibrant medical community.

Driving back home, I couldn’t help but reflect on both the beautiful scenery and the wealth of knowledge I had acquired—truly a journey of growth in every sense.
