Lower Bucks Hospital and Health Partners Plans (HPP) Offered Mammograms to Bucks County Residents

Bristol, PA (October 30, 2023) — Lower Bucks Hospital and Health Partners Plans (HPP) partnered to offer mammograms to Health Partner Medicaid Plan members in Bucks County.

The initiative was kicked off by Tracy Swift-Merrick, Community Engagement Liaison with Health Partners Plans, and current employees at Lower Bucks Hospital. According to Swift-Merrick, this is the first time HPP has partnered with a hospital in the Bucks County area for the mammogram initiative.

“We were thrilled to partner with Health Partners Plans for Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Michael Mignone, RT, Radiology Director of Lower Bucks Hospital. “The event allowed members to have the ability to access life-saving health care, which will ultimately lead to better health outcomes.”

Health Partners Plans is a not-for-profit health maintenance organization serving Pennsylvania residents. They offer Medicaid, Medicare, and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) plans that include special benefits to improve the health and wellness of their members. In November 2021, Jefferson Health became the sole owner of Health Partners Plans.

This is Lower Bucks Hospital’s first time teaming up with Health Partners Plans. During the screening, there were 18 Health Partners Plans’ members who were signed up, and they were called and confirmed for their appointments before the event.  If members were unable to attend, Health Partners Plans ended up rescheduling an appointment with their own physician. The event also featured information, giveaways, and education for their members.

“This was a great event. The stories of the women that attended were inspirational and thought provoking to say the least,” said Swift-Merrick. “Everyone involved, including myself, thought it was a great success. Thanks again for all that you do.”

Health Partners Plans’ vision is to connect with the hearts and minds of those they serve, by improving the health outcomes for members, operating with respect and dignity, while cultivating inclusivity and belonging.

Mignone added, “Thank you to Health Partners for this initiative and their continued efforts to enhance lives throughout our communities.”

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among women in the United States and it is the 2nd leading cause of death from cancer among women.  The American Cancer Society recommends women start getting mammograms at the age of 40. However, depending on family history and genetic risk, physicians may recommend mammograms at an earlier age for some women.
